SUSPECT IN OFFICER HIT-AND-RUN APPREHENDED IN NYC

Hackensack – Today Bergen County Sheriff Leo McGuire announced the arrest of Jamel Dixon in connection with an earlier incident at the Motor Vehicle Commission’s Lodi facility where a Sheriff’s Officer was struck by a vehicle while attempting to apprehend its driver.
“This arrest was the result of swift and efficient work by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office and the New York Police Department,” McGuire said. “Every day our officers risk injury to themselves to keep the residents of this county safe. To those who would do them harm I would simply say; ‘Justice is coming for you’.”
The arrest came as a result of an ongoing investigation conducted by members of the Bergen Sheriff’s Office under the direction of Sheriff Leo P. McGuire, and the NYPD Anti Crime Unit under the direction of Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly.
Detectives from the Bergen County Sheriff Office and NYPD arrested Jamel Dixon on May 26th for Aggravated Assault on Police Officer that occurred on,2010.
On Monday, May 24th, while working at Lodi MVC facility, a Sheriff’s Officer was alerted by the staff of an individual with a fraudulent ID. The suspect then grabbed the ID from the MVC employee and ran out of the building. The officer pursued the suspect into the parking lot where he entered a Gray Range Rover. The vehicle struck the officer while exiting the parking lot onto Route 17 South. all surrounding agencies and NYPD were notified. The vehicle was last seen crossing the George Washington Bridge.
While conducting a neighborhood search, detectives from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office and the NYPD Anti Crime Unit observed and identified the subject in the area of 173rd Street Bronx, NY. The subject fled on foot, and after a brief foot pursuit the subject was taken into custody at 173rd & Hoe Street. Bronx, New York.
The subject is also a Fugitive wanted by the State of Massachusetts for his involvement in Drug Trafficking .
