McGUIRE APPOINTS CAPTAIN JOHN DAVIS AS BCSO’S FIRST COUNTER-TERRORISM COORDINATOR

Hackensack – Yesterday Bergen County Sheriff Leo McGuire announced the appointment of Captain John Davis of Lyndhurst as the first Counter-Terrorism Coordinator of the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office.

“As recent events in New York City have reminded us, we still live in a dangerous world filled with individuals and organizations hell-bent on vocalizing their message through violence,” said McGuire who is a member of the Homeland Security Committee of the National Sheriff’s Association. “The planning for these nefarious acts is taking place far from the battlefield, right here in the streets and neighborhoods of the homeland. That’s why it’s more important than ever for every level of law enforcement to remain vigilant and communicate the kind of information that could prove essential to stopping a terrorist attack before it happens.”

As Counter-Terrorism Coordinator Davis’ responsibilities will include communicating with the Bergen County CT Coordinator and integration into the Department of Justice’s Joint Terrorism Taskforce and the Department of Homeland Security’s Urban Areas Security Initiative. Davis will also oversee the dissemination of any relevant intelligence gleaned through the BCSO’s own BergenTip text tip program as well as the Jail Information Program.

“I am honored to have been selected by Sheriff McGuire for this essential assignment,” Davis said. “Keeping our community safe from those who would do us harm has become a vital function for every aspect of law enforcement. As Bergen County’s largest law enforcement agency the BCSO has an important role to play in that overarching mission. I will work to ensure that we continue to be active with our partners on the federal and state level as well as working with the public whose eyes and ears are our first line of defense.”
