Sheriff McGuire Tours Downtown Westwood to Highlight New BergenTip Line

WESTWOOD, N.J. – Sheriff McGuire and officers from the BCSO today took a walking tour of downtown Westwood to meet with local business owners and hand out information and flyers about the BCSO's new BergenTip program.

“No police force is capable of being everywhere at once,” Sheriff McGuire said.  “By offering residents the ability to anonymously submit tips to law enforcement, we are encouraging citizens to act as our eyes and ears in the community, and to serve as our partners in public safety.”

The BergenTip Line Program, launched on March 10, 2010, is Bergen County’s first text-based way to safely and anonymously communicate crime tips and information to law enforcement officials.  To forward information to the BCSO using a mobile device, an individual can send the word ‘BergenTip’ and their message to “CRIMES” – or 274637. On the web, a person with relevant information can go to www.BergenTip.com and click near the top of the page to submit an anonymous tip.

In the months ahead, the Sheriff will be visiting other towns in Bergen County to talk to local business owners about the BCSO's new initiative.
