BCSO’s BergenTip Program Nets Latest Arrest in Rutherford

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Bergen County Sheriff Leo P. McGuire today announced the arrest of James Manieri of Rutherford on an outstanding child support warrant for arrears in the amount of $15,682.50.  The arrest was made possible by an anonymous tip received through the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office’s BergenTip Line Program.

“Mr. Manieri’s arrest is another great example of our innovative use of technology to keep Bergen County safe,” Sheriff McGuire said.  “No police force is capable of being everywhere at once.  By offering residents the ability to anonymously submit tips to law enforcement, we are encouraging citizens to act as our eyes and ears in the community, and to serve as our partners in public safety.”

The Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip that Manieri might be living somewhere in Rutherford.  After tracing him to a local residence, four detectives were dispatched and consequently placed him under arrest at 10 p.m. on April 29.

The BergenTip Line Program, launched on March 10, 2010, is Bergen County’s first text-based way to safely and anonymously communicate crime tips and information to law enforcement officials.  To forward information to the BCSO using a mobile device, an individual can send the word ‘BergenTip’ and their message to “CRIMES” – or 274637. On the web, a person with relevant information can go to www.BergenTip.com and click near the top of the page to submit an anonymous tip.
