Sheriff McGuire Presents Gold Star I.D. Program to Senior Citizen Coordinator Council

PARAMUS, N.J. – Bergen County Sheriff Leo P. McGuire today met with members of the Bergen County Senior Citizen Coordinator Council to highlight the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office’s popular Gold Star Identification Program.

“When it comes to saving lives, every second counts,” Sheriff McGuire said.  “Through our Gold Star I.D. Program, we are protecting our senior citizens and giving their loved ones peace of mind.”

The BCSO’s Gold Star Identification Program, which provides first responders with vital medical information in the event of an emergency, is available for county residents over the age of 65 and residents with special needs.  Participants receive a photo identification card, which corresponds to an emergency contact file maintained by the BCSO’s 24-Hour Operations Unit.

Data kept on file includes a list of family and emergency contacts, physician’s contact information, as well as current and prior medical conditions.  In the event of an emergency, or if a participant becomes incapacitated during a medical emergency, the Operations Unit will release his or her emergency contact information to first responders.
