Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Brings Gold Star I.D. Program to Bergenfield

BERGENFIELD, N.J. – The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) today offered its Gold Star Identification Program to more than 100 local senior citizens at the Bergenfield Senior Center.  The program provides first responders with vital medical information in the event of an emergency.

“When it comes to saving lives, every second counts,” Sheriff Leo P. McGuire said.  “Through our Gold Star I.D. Program, we are protecting our seniors and residents with special needs, and giving their loved ones peace of mind.”

The BCSO’s Gold Star Identification Program is run in conjunction with local fire departments, hospitals and emergency service providers.  Participating senior citizens are issued a photo identification card, which corresponds to a file maintained by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office’s 24-Hour Operations Unit.

Data kept on file includes a list of family and emergency contacts, physician’s contact information, as well as current and prior medical conditions.  In the event of an emergency, or if a participant becomes incapacitated during a medical emergency, the Operations Unit will release his or her emergency contact information to first responders.

The Gold Star Identification Program is available for county residents over the age of 65 and residents with special needs.  For more information about the program, please contact the BCSO’s Community Outreach Unit at 201-336-3540.
