BERGEN COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE OFFERS ASSISTANCE IN THE FACE OF DEBILITATING STORM
McGuire Reminds Municipal Governments that Help is Ready, Willing, Able and Standing By

HACKENSACK, N.J. – Bergen County Sheriff Leo P. McGuire today offered continued assistance to local governments still trying to recover from last weekend’s severe weather and flooding across the county.

“In the aftermath of last weekend’s devastating storm, I want to remind all of our municipalities that the Sheriff’s Office is standing by, ready to assist,” Sheriff McGuire said. “The safety of our residents always comes first.  As the largest law enforcement agency in the County, we are here to provide the manpower and resources necessary to help those towns who need it most.”

Sheriff McGuire highlighted the Office of the Sheriff’s Inmate Labor Program, which assists municipalities and nonprofit organizations with a variety of community service projects.  Incarcerated inmates and minor offenders in the Sheriff’s Labor Assistance Program (SLAP) perform community service throughout the county, seven days a week.  On Sunday, inmates were dispatched to clean the affected areas around the courthouse, county administration buildings and jail.

“I would like to thank our Freeholders for calling to inquire about this valuable resource my office provides to Bergen County,” Sheriff McGuire said.  “The Sheriff’s Office will continue to work in partnership with Bergen County officials to deploy emergency resources as needed.”
