Service Offers Citizens Safe and Anonymous Way of Sharing Information with Law Enforcement Community

Hackensack – Today Bergen County Sheriff Leo McGuire announced the creation of Bergen County’s first text-based way to safely and anonymously communicate information to law enforcement officials.

“The arrival of the BergenTip program allows every citizen to play their part in keeping our county safe and keeping criminals off our streets,” said McGuire. “As the county’s largest law enforcement agency the Bergen Sheriff’s Office is uniquely positioned to act as the centralized hub for information about criminal activity throughout the county. Combining the public’s desire to clean up our communities with the popularity of mobile text messaging gives the BCSO a pair of eyes and ears everywhere.”

The ability to anonymously submit a tip to the Sheriff’s Office is offered via both cell phone and the web. To forward information to the BCSO using a mobile device, an individual can send the word ‘BergenTip’ and their message to ‘274637’. On the web, a person with relevant information can go to www.BergenTip.com and click near the top of the page to submit an anonymous tip.

“No police force is capable of being everywhere at once,” McGuire said. “The BergenTip program gets residents off the bench and into the game in a way that protects their identity and keeps them safe. Best of all, the service comes at no cost to the taxpayers as its being funded with money seized from drug dealers.”
